Cottonmill Park and Lake offers various opportunities for fun and recreational activities just west of Kearney. A central feature to the park is the 43 acre lake. Swimmers can enjoy the sand beaches and swimming is allowed from sunrise to sunset with no lifeguard on duty. If fishing is more to your liking the lake is stocked with large mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and northern pike.

Fort Kearny State Recreation area is 152 acres of outdoor beaches, swimming, fishing, camping, picnicking and the 1.8-mile Fort Kearny Hike Bike Trail. Showers and changing rooms are available.

Harmon Park swimming pool is surrounded by a very scenic and serene setting. The park features an Olympic-size pool with 160-foot water slide, three diving boards, a diving well, lap lanes, and water basketball. There is also a large baby pool for the youngsters.

Fort Kearny was an oasis during a hard journey for thousands of pioneer wagon trains. Be an eyewitness to the story by walking through the interpretive center, the blacksmith-carpenter shop, powder magazine and split stockade.

The E.K. and Mary Yanney Heritage Park is an eighty acre park located in southwest Kearney. Come see one of the grandest public parks in the Midwest. The park is home of a 12 acre lake that is stocked with fish and attracts migrating waterfowl and offers a free Splashground/Playground for hours of fun for children of all ages. The park is open to the public daily. The park is located one mile west of the intersection of 11th St. & 2nd Ave. |
